WorldSkills International announced with Glasurit the winners of the Car Painting skill competition and the Sustainable Practice Excellence Award at the 47th WorldSkills Competition held in Lyon, France. Twenty-three (23) talented painters faced off against each other and, after an exciting four-day competition, the world champions were determined. The gold medal in the Car Painting skill went to Yuto Hoshino from Japan. The silver medal was awarded to Lara Kaufmann from Switzerland, Jason Scherer from Germany and Ronan Le Tutour from France.

For the first time in this prestigious worldwide competition's history, Glasurit supported the young talents and experts from around the world with professional training using its 100 Line, the world's leading premium automotive refinish paint system. Glasurit 100 Line is noted for its outstanding performance backed by proven benchmark results with up to 40% less process time compared to standard basecoat lines in the market. Due to 100 Line’s advanced formulation, it also reduces material consumption by up to 30% for every application. Glasurit 100 Line has also been able to turn some 3-stage colors into 2-stage colors for a simplified process, unbeatable speed and increased sustainability.

During the event, all car painting finalists were judged on their level of eco-efficiency in the paint application process, promoting excellence in sustainable practices. By using Glasurit 100 Line, Refinity and paint related material from SATA and 3M, the car painters are encouraged to be mindful of using the precise amount of paint materials to achieve the highest quality results, thereby enhancing eco-effectiveness for both the environment and the business.

The Sustainable Practice Excellence Award recognizes Competitors who demonstrate the most efficient use of materials and products in the skill competition. The winner of this year's award, which was handed out by Glasurit, SATA, 3M and WorldSkills, went to Mr Yuto Hoshino from Japan. Second place went to Mr. Vikash from India, and third place went to Ms. Hui-Shan Chen from Chinese Taipei.

A dedicated Glasurit event booth during the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 week welcomed Competitors, experts and visitors, and showcased the skill set of the Car Painting skill from the standpoint of the future of mobility and color competence to the training solutions available to achieve increased sustainability. In the Try-a-Skill area, the VR Spray painter tool was an attraction that let visitors experience the Glasurit 100 Line and its performance in virtual conditions.

“We achieved an amazing result with WorldSkills Lyon 2024 to inspire the audience and competitor countries with our most sustainable paint line and our training solutions yet. The passion and excellence shown by the talents at this year's Car Painting skills competition was phenomenal. Glasurit 100 Line introduced a whole new level of sustainability in the refinish practices and process that will both inspire the next generation of painters and raise the competition to new heights," Roar Solberg, Vice President, EMEA Automotive Refinish Coatings, BASF.

The 48th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Shanghai, China in 2026, where the world's first WorldSkills Museum was inaugurated in 2023 with a special presence of Glasurit.
