Glasurit Sponsor of Emirates Skills 2018

BASF partners with Emirates Skills at National Competition for Emirati students

Four Emirati youths were evaluated based on the standards and criteria of the internationally recognized WorldSkills organization

BASF partnered with Emirates Skills, a national member of the global WorldSkills Competition, for this year’s edition of National Competition in Abu Dhabi. Aged between 15-19, participants were judged across several categories including time management, paint mixing and overall finish, as they sought to be recognized as the best in a range of talents.

For the first time, this year’s National Competition also included a vehicle painting competition. As the exclusive sponsor of the category, BASF’s team guided and trained four Emirati students to compete in coating a vehicle with BASF’s Glasurit® - the premier paint brand in the region.

All category winners are now qualified to represent the UAE in regional and international competitions, in addition to receiving cash prizes, and access to an extensive Advanced Training Program with a network of experts in the UAE and abroad.

“The skills tested at this event, as well as a healthy attitude towards competition, are critical to the development of future generations. With our sponsorships in WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 and Emirates Skills 2018, we have reaffirmed our commitment to support the UAE’s Emiratization efforts,” said Sven Israel, Regional Business Management Middle East, BASF Middle East. “While some may consider painting cars to be a simple process, ensuring that it is done correctly and at the highest standards requires a drive for perfectionism. This is an important trait for young people seeking careers in high-tech fields -- where mistakes can be costly.”

“As we continue this journey in creating a bright future for Emirati youth, we have engaged in very positive discussions with the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute and the Vocational Education Development Center to open a common training facility for car painting. Furthermore, our team is committed to train and mentor a talented young Emirati car painter as they prepare to represent the UAE at the global WorldSkills competition Kazan, Russia in 2019,” concluded Israel.

The Emirates Skills’ National Competition is an annual initiative that celebrates outstanding young Emiratis with technical and vocational skills, to encourage the brightest talent to pursue technology-based careers. The competition challenges youths across 54 skills categories in six sectors, including construction and building technology, manufacturing and engineering technology and innovation.
