Chemical Recycling

We're reinventing the wheel.

By recycling waste tires and using them as a resource in the manufacturing process, we're drastically reducing CO₂.

Chemical Recycling

Chemical Recycling uses recycled feedstock derived from waste tires, which is then attributed to our certified Chemical Recycling products. This keeps them away from landfills or incineration. As part of the Mass Balance approach, these raw materials are then used to create new refinish products. This contributes to a circular economy, saving fossil raw materials, avoiding waste, and cutting CO₂ emissions.

* Our product carbon footprints are calculated following the requirements and guidelines of ISO 14067:2018. The product carbon footprints for mass balance products are assessed cradle to gate, i.e. excluding CO₂ emissions caused during product application and end-of-life treatment. Our product carbon footprint data is based on assumptions and approximations valid at the time of data collection. For chemically recycled mass balance products, product carbon footprint credits resulting from avoided end-of-life tire treatment (e.g., incineration) may be allocated to the product in accordance with the Upstream System Expansion (USE) approach defined in the Product Carbon Footprint Guideline of the Together for Sustainability (TfS) initiative. Further information can be found here: Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) - TfS Initiative.

Eco Balance products contribute to reducing the use of fossil resources and CO₂ emissions via the mass balance approach. In our mass balance approach, we source renewable or recycled mass-balanced raw materials and feed them into our value chain. These raw materials are then attributed to certain sales products according to a certified method. For our mass balance products, 100% of the feedstock required for these products (chemical product only, excluding packaging material) has been replaced by renewable or recycled resources. All our Eco Balance products are independently certified according to the REDcert² standard. For more information, please visit REDcert²Chemistry.

When reference is made to CO₂ savings per travelled kilometer, a standard CO₂ emission of 94 grams per travelled car kilometer is assumed. References to equivalent numbers of end-of-life tires are based on a standard tire weighing 8.8 kg and assumptions regarding the available tire mass for pyrolysis and the conversion factor used in the pyrolysis process.
